Devil’s Wake

My entry to the December 2008 comic competition at Zudacomics.com. Originally titled “Aeon of the Dead”, it won the competition that month and was featured on Zuda, the web comics branch of DC Comics.

The art style took a big leap for me, since there were many different factors that changed how I created the work. Delivering on the internet instead of the printed page, I had to work in a new horizontal format which took some time to get comfortable with. However, the advantage of doing the whole book in color was huge, and I stretched my limited experience in color to the max as I worked in Photoshop exclusively to create the pages from beginning to end. I also tried to avoid having the work look too much like it was done on the computer, so a lot of time was taken to “paint” using the tablet and adding various textures.

The book ran sixty pages and I was happy with the progress I made towards the end. I was also fortunate enough to wrap up my story just before Zuda decided to change their business model by shutting down their website and switching to other venues of digital publishing.
